Emily Davis
Spark Academy Director
Emily has been an educator for close to twenty years as a licensed teacher with a BA in Early Childhood Education and a M.Ed in Elementary Education. Working in both public and private schools in North Carolina, New York City, and Massachusetts has afforded her exposure to the various techniques and educational philosophies of these areas. Her experience includes classroom teaching, consulting, director of admissions, professional development leader, teacher mentor, and board member of a parent cooperative. She has a passion for exploring children’s thought processes by providing materials that extend problem-solving techniques and help children reach higher levels of thinking through play. Creative arts and their role in learning also have a strong influence on her education style. Emily values teacher and student voices, experiences, and reflections as understanding who we are as people is critical for collaborating and putting theory into practice with young children and families.
Outside of school, she enjoys activities involving the outdoors: running, biking, hiking, gardening. She spends most of her time watching her son play soccer, her daughter running cross country and track, or walking her dogs, Harley and Ollie.
Emily has been an active member in the community, launching the first Females in Action (FiA) chapter in the Cape Fear Region. FiA is a free fitness group dedicated to supporting women through activities that fulfill their hearts, minds, and bodies. Additionally, Emily gives back through volunteering at local race events, including the Novant Health Wilmington Marathon, Nourish NC, and her daughters school PTA.
